“Punchy earthiness” – The Telegraph
“Dakhla – here is one of the bands doing great things right now! Very modern, great grooves, sound of Jazz coming from the UK that makes it stand out from everywhere else.’ BBC Radio 2 (Jamie Cullum)
“Really punchy, very powerful energetic sound. Dakhla Brass are an important part of the wave of modern groups that draw on the brass band tradition in some way.’ Jazzwise (Kevin Legendre)
‘A powerhouse. Talent, instinct and creativity make them a real force to be reckoned with’ (Sound on Sound Magazine)
Riding high on the wave of brass band-influenced jazz, Bristol-based Dakhla Brass are back with a new album – Murmur – on Impossible Ark Records.
With their first new release since BBC Introducing & Jamie Cullum presented them at Montreal Jazz Festival in 2016, the unusual line up of four brass players + drummer is augmented with Nostalgia 77 double bassist Riaan Vosloo.
Expect a lattice of intricate brass lines over simmering drums, flurries of improvisation and carefully-crafted through-arrangements.
With rave reviews from the likes of The Telegraph, Jazzwise and Jamie Cullum on BBC Radio 2, their live performances have included sharing prestigious stages with top international contemporary outfits, including the Youngblood, Hypnotic and Hot 8 Brass Bands.
